Acer Palmatum


Acer Palmatum (Japanese Maple)

Deciduous tree/shrub with striking foliage and excellent autumn colour. Fully Hardy. Requires sun or semi-shade and fertile, moist, well-drained soil. Produces best autumn colour on neutral to acid soil. Good for a large container. Best in a sheltered spot.

 

Allium


Allium

Perennial with narrow basal leaves and striking spherical flowers borne on a single stem. Flowers range in colour from blue, purple, deep purple-red and white. Fully to frost hardy. Requires an open sunny situation with well-drained soil. Best left to form clumps. Dried flowers are great for winter decoration.

 

Clematis


Clematis

Deciduous and evergreen climbers. Grown for their mass of flowers followed by decorative seed heads. May be grown in partial shade or full sun preferring rich, well-drained soil and the roots shaded.

 

Cornus florida


Cornus florida (Flowering Dogwood)

Deciduous tree, Height 6m and Spread 8m. Attractive foliage with a range of colours and variegation. Fantastic autumn colour and attractive stems in winter. Fully hardy. Requires full sun or semi-shade and fertile, well-drained soil. Dislikes shallow chalky soil.

 

Geranium


Geranium (Cranesbill)

Perennial grown for profusion of attractive flowers and ground cover. Most species prefer sun but there are varieties that will grow in partial shade. Will grow in any soil as long as not waterlogged. Most species fully hardy.

 

Geum


Geum

Summer flowering perennials with profusion of attractive red to yellow flowers. Fully hardy. Prefers full sun and moist, well-drained soil.

 

Iris


Iris

Upright perennial with some species being evergreen. Grown for their stunning, distinctive flowers. There are many groups of Iris with some requiring specific conditions but in general they prefer sun and moist, well-drained soil.

 

Lily


Lily (Lilium)

Summer flowering bulbs grown for their fragrant, brightly coloured flowers. Requires sun and well drained soil. Great for growing in a pot and placing out in the border to bring colour and structure to gaps.

 

Lupin


Lupin (Lupinus)

Family of annuals, perennials and semi-evergreen shrubs. Large racemes of pea like flowers and attractive foliage. Prefers sun and well-drained soil.

 

Peony


Peony (Paeonia)

Late spring flowering perennials and deciduous shrubs. Valued for large showy blooms and striking foliage. Prefers sun but will tolerate light shade and rich, well-drained soil. Tall and large flowered varieties will need supporting.

 

Rose


Rose (Rosa)

Grown for beautiful, often heavily scented flowers in a large range of colours from bold to pastel. Open shrubs or climbers. Lots of varieties are repeat flowering and will flower the whole season encouraged by regular deadheading and feeding. Prefer open, sunny site with fertile, moist, well-drained soil. Fully hardy unless otherwise stated.

 

Salvia


Salvia (Sage)

Family of annuals, biennials, perennials and evergreen or semi-evergreen shrubs. Grown for their marvellous blue/purple, red/purple or white flower spikes and scented foliage. Requires sun and fertile, well-drained soil. Fully hardy to frost tender depending upon variety.
