Flower Garden
- Liquid feed summer bedding and pot plants regularly.
- Regularly deadhead to prolong flowering.
- Hardy geraniums can be cut back after flowering to encourage fresh growth.
- Finish dividing Bearded Iris.
- From tender plants such as Pelargoniums and Fuchsias take cuttings.
- Clip Lavenders after flowering to keep a compact habit.
- Start buying / ordering spring flowering bulbs.
Fruit and Vegetables
- Increase feeding your tomatoes.
- Strawberry beds can be tidied after fruiting. Prepare new beds where required.
- Tie in the new Raspberry and Blackberry canes.
- Summer prune trained fruit trees.
- Turnips, oriental veg, spring cabbage, autumn and winter salads can be sown.
Glass House and Indoor Plants
- Conservatory plants can be placed outside now the weather is warm.
- Conservatories and glasshouses will need ventilation and shade. Damp down glasshouses on hot days.
- House plants will need a feed every 2 weeks.
- Indoor Cyclamen can be started back into growth.
Lawns
- Set mowers to high during droughts or very dry spells.
- Prepare areas due to be grassed this autumn.
Pest and Diseases
- Look to control earwigs amongst Dahlias to reduce the damage they cause.
- Control vine weevil by applying biological controls.
- Powdery mildew may still be a problem. Treat using an appropriate fungicide.
- Look out for caterpillars on brassicas.
- To avoid blossom end rot on tomatoes water regularly.
Trees, Shrubs and Climbers
- Trim rambling Roses after flowering.
- Summer prune Wisteria.
- Lightly trim Hebes and Lavender.
